Galkayo Orphanage
In 2006, HICDA started supporting the Galkayo Orphanage that was established in 1993 by Imamu Nabawi Welfare Society. This was the time when Somalia has been affected by local conflicts, hunger, malnutrition and mass displacement that gave way to massive strife of thousands of under-age orphaned children in the region. Currently, the Galkayo orphanage houses 180 orphans of both genders; who are in the age-group 6-15 years. The boys receive: Sleeping quarter, food, education & clothes for Eid celebration. Similarly, the girls receive education, dry food to take home and clothes for Eid celebration. A good part of the cost expenses is covered by the general community abroad, but there’s the need to upset a budget shortfall due to skyrocketing inflation, displaced applicant orphans and ongoing droughts To a certain extent, center’s orphans are the most fortunate ones in Galkayo residents. There are hundreds of orphans on the waiting list who have no hope for a quick-fix for living and education opportunities unless they join with their peers in the center.
HICDA and HCI pay the education fees for all 180 orphans. HICDA and HCI also buy new clothes for the orphans during the Eid celebration and give Zabiha donations.
We seek and encourage benefactors to donate $30/month that can save and educate a child.
