Typhoon Haiyan in Puntland

The Somali community and HCI have responded to the dire needs of the people affected by the Typhoon Haiyan that hit the north East province of Somalia, Puntland.
Himilo facilitate the implementation of the project and I am glad to report that all activities were carried as planned. The total budget of the project was $15,000.00. In the area hit by the typhoon, a committee was struck by the elderly to coordinate the emergency aid to the affected people. Himilo representatives in central Somalia had to buy goats from areas approximately 400km south of North east Puntland, as there was a goat shortage in Puntland. 200 goats were purchased and they needed caring, guarding and transportation to Qarxis town on January 17. Himilo handed the goats to the committee and the committee distributed 10 goats per family as planned in our proposal. The newly elected president of Puntland State and the one leaving the office attended the ceremony of the distribution of the goats.
