2009 Iftaar Program

The second annual Iftaar program was held in Gaalkacyo, Somalia. There were approximately 50 daily participants for each of the 30 days the program ran. Some of the participants are internally displaced people who had fled the fighting in the Mogadishu area, unemployed youth who with no supporting families, and disable people.

Our first Iftaar project was also held in Gaalkacyo with 30 daily participant.

Our experience for raising funds and implementing the program is very positive. We are planning to expand the Iftaar project in the coming year to other needy towns, and we will start raising the funds much earlier than we have done this year.

The program continued throughout the month of Ramadan. People were fed twice every evening, once to break fast, and dinner after Isha prayers. People were very happy to be given the opportunity to fast without starving and daily begging for food.

The total budget for the program was $1,770.00 USD.

The funds was raised by
1. Human Concern International
2. Himilo International Civic Development Agency

This program was implemented by
1. Bani Aadam Relief and Development Organization in Somalia
2. Himilo International Civic Development Agency in Gaalkacyo and Mogadisho

On behalf of Himilo, its volunteers, and supporters, I extend my gratitude to Human Concern International and BRDO for the strong collaborations and assistance given to the needy people of Somalia. I also thank our volunteers in Somalia especially Maallim Mohamud Yusuf and Maallim Qaasim Hassan Dini and Abdulkadir Maallin Mohamud (Adnaan) for putting their energy and time to make this project a successful one.
